Before the business and legal issues of the estate can be pursued, it will be necessary to obtain certified copies of the death certificate. These documents are referred to as proof of death certificates or funeral Statements of Death. Please advise us on how many you think you may need. It is always better to order a few more than what you think you will need. Most agencies will only accept certified death certificates and not photocopies, however, if they see an original they may photocopy it on themselves.
From time to time, we run into situations that a need for a Certified Copy of the Death Certificate from the Province. This typically occurs when there is foreign owned property or assets. In Ontario our Funeral Directors statement of death has become the norm for proving death, outside of Ontario you may require a different form.
